An elderly man has died and his female passenger is in hospital with critical injuries following a collision at Bannockburn earlier this afternoon, Victoria Police say.
The crash happened at the intersection of Clyde Hill Road and the Midland Highway at 4.30pm.
The collision occurred when a Nissan sedan, travelling south west on Clyde Hill Road collided with a 4x4 utility, towing a caravan, on the Midland Highway.
The driver of the sedan, a 79-year-old man, died as a result of the collision while his passenger, a woman in her 70s was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.
The occupants of the utility, a man and a woman and a small child were conveyed to a Geelong hospital with minor injuries.
