Police investigate Melbourne assault

Melbourne East police are appealing for public assistance after a man was spat on in the Melbourne CBD last month.

Investigators have been told a 32-year-old Southbank man was on his phone near the intersection of Collins and Spring streets about 1pm on Wednesday 9 September.

A man walked past the 32-year-old and spat on him, with the saliva hitting the victim on his cheek and temple.

The offender then walked from the scene.

He is perceived to be Caucasian, 40-50 years old with a thin build.

At the time of the offence he was wearing a red hooded jacket, two pairs of pants and thongs.

Police have released CCTV and images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.
