Police investigate Melbourne CBD property scam

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 21-year-old man following an alleged rental scam in Melbourne’s CBD, Victoria Police say.

It is alleged scammers rent short term leases at properties in Melbourne’s CBD and then re-advertise the same property online and pocket the victim’s deposit.

A Sydney man has been charged with obtain financial advantage by deception.

He has been bailed appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 5 April.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are warning the community to be wary when using rental websites.
