Police were called to Bridge Inn Road, Mernda about 5.50pm on 6 March after reports of a group of males fighting.
When emergency services arrived they located a male with injuries.
He was treated at the scene by ambulance crews but could not be revived.
Homicide Squad detectives are headed to Mernda and the investigation is ongoing.
