Police investigate peak hour crash on Princes Freeway

Police are appealing for witnesses after a Toyota Prado was involved in a crash in Altona North yesterday.

It is understood a black 2012 Toyota Prado was travelling outbound along the Princes Freeway near the Western Ring Road around 5.30pm.

Witnesses have told police the driver failed to slow down for the peak traffic and collided with several other vehicles, causing extensive damage.

It's believed the Prado continued at speed over the wire safety barrier in the median strip and travelled another 250metres, crashing into a number of trees and shrubs before coming to a stop on its side.

Passers-by helped the driver from the vehicle.

The 33-year-old Rockbank man, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to hospital for assessment.

He will be interviewed by police at a later date.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collisions, or who saw the Prado prior to the incident, or with dashcam is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
