Police investigate scooter hit-run in Hawthorn East

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers are investigating a hit-run in Hawthorn east on Boxing Day that left a pedestrian in hospital.

A 64-year-old man was walking north on Burke Road near Ryeburne Avenue about 5.50pm when a motorised scooter lost control and mounted the gutter.

The scooter rider continued north on the footpath, with the foot pegs scraping along the ground, then struck the victim.

The pedestrian has fallen to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.

The scooter rider drove off west on Ryeburne Avenue, failing to stop and assist the pedestrian.

The Hawthorn East man was treated for multiple head injuries but has since been released from hospital.

The scooter is described as being a Kymco brand and investigators have released an image of the offender on his scooter and a similar scooter model.
