Police investigate series of thefts in the Surf Coast area

Torquay Crime Investigation Unit detectives are seeking public assistance following a series of car thefts in Torquay, Jan Juc and Bells Beach areas, Victoria Police say.

Investigators believe an unknown man has been gaining access to cars parked in beach car parks.

It is believed the offender locates car keys which have been hidden while the victims are out surfing.

Once access has been gained to the cars, items such as credits cards, cash and personal identification documents are stolen.

In some situations the victim’s car has also been stolen and their credit cards used at stores in the Torquay, Jan Juc and Geelong areas.

Detectives have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the thefts and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
