Police investigate Sunshine Incident

Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating following an incident in Sunshine earlier this week where a man was seriously assaulted and a group of people threatened with a firearm, Victoria Police say.

Four people were in the car park of a licensed premises on Talmage Street just before 1am on Tuesday, 19 December following an event at the venue.

The man and three women were talking when a man has walked out from behind a dumpster.

The man then pointed a firearm at the group and made demands for the building to be opened.

He then struck the male victim, who is aged in his 70s, in the chest, arm and head with the firearm.

The man continued to make threats against the group, pointing the firearm at one of the women, who is also aged in her 70s.

The man picked up a set of keys dropped by the male victim, and the alarm of the victim’s car was subsequently triggered.

The man then ran from the scene and turned left towards Albion Railway Station.

It’s believed he may have subsequently entered a vehicle.

The male victim suffered a serious head injury and an arm injury, while the three female victims were physically uninjured.

The male victim’s mobile phone was stolen during the incident however it was later recovered.

The man is described as being about 182cm tall, with a thin build, light coloured eyes and perceived to be Caucasian in appearance.

At the time he was wearing dark loose-fitting pants, a dark windcheater, runners and a dark coloured balaclava over his face.

Investigators have also released CCTV footage showing the man confronting the victims and the hope someone can provide further information about his identity or whereabouts.

Detectives are also searching for a vehicle believed to be linked to the incident.

The car is described as a 2009 silver Holden Commodore VE SS Sportswagon with NSW registration CG48YL.

Police have released an image of a vehicle similar to that and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or knows of it’s current whereabouts.

They have also released an image of the exact vehicle, which shows the registration plates.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
