Police investigate suspicious fire in St Albans

Police are investigating a fire believed to have been deliberately lit outside the home of an elderly woman in St Albans overnight.

Investigators have been told the 89-year-old woman, and a 47-year-old man who was also home at the time, noticed the fire burning outside their Blendon Avenue home about 10.45pm.

It is understood trees, bushes and the fence were burned before emergency services attended and extinguished the flames.

No one was injured during the incident.

The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing however it is believed to be suspicious at this stage.
