Police investigate suspicious fire near Orange

Police have commenced an investigation into a deliberately lit fire in the state's Central West overnight.

Just after 3am (Saturday 29 June 2019), emergency services were called to a community workshop on the Mitchell Highway at Lucknow, south of Orange.

Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the building was partially damaged.

Officers from Central West Police District attended and with the assistance of investigators attached to Strike Force Filshie, have commenced inquiries into the fire.

Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage which depicts at least one person attempting to set firewood and other items stored alongside the building alight between 2.15am and 2.40am, before the fire spread to the building.

A number of vehicles can be seen driving past at the time.

Police are now appealing for anyone in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident or have dash cam footage, to contact Orange Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
