Police investigate theft by deception at Narre Warren shopping centre

Police are investigating a theft by deception at a camping store in a Narre Warren shopping centre last month, Victoria Police say.

The incident took place at the Princes Highway shopping centre on 21 September.

Police have been told that a man entered the store and after walking around for a short time he selected a tent and approached the front counter to pay for it.

The man paid $44 for the tent as was indicated on the price ticket.

The next day staff found a cheap tent left on the shelf, without its packaging, and found an expensive tent valued at $840 missing.

Staff believe the man changed the cheap tent for a more expensive tent before paying the incorrect price and leaving the store.

Investigators have released an image and CCTV of a man they believe may be able to assist in their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
