Police investigating after body found during blaze - Glenfield

An investigation is underway after the body of a man was found during a fire in a granny flat in Sydney's south-west yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a property on Belmont Road, Glenfield, following reports of a fire about 4.20pm (Tuesday 31 August 2021).

Upon arrival, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command found a granny flat at the rear of the property on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze and located the body of a man in the flat.

While yet to be formally identified, police believe the deceased is the resident of the flat, an 89-year-old man.

Police established a crime scene and an investigation commenced into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
