Police Investigating After Crash At Sutton Forest

Police are making inquiries following a crash in the state's south today.

About 1.15pm today (Thursday 23 October 2025), emergency services were called to The Hume Highway, Sutton Forest, following reports of a crash.

On arrival, officers attached to The Hume Police District were told a light rigid horse truck towing a horse float had crashed to avoid a tractor.

NSW SES and NSW Police Rescue attended and removed the driver of the horse truck - a 27-year-old man – from the vehicle after being trapped for some time.

NSW Ambulance paramedics further treated the man for serious injuries before he was transported by helicopter to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

One horse occupying the horse truck was euthanised due to their injuries, while a second horse died as a result of the crash.

Seven other horses were taken away for treatment.

The driver of the tractor – a 26-year-old man – was uninjured and underwent mandatory testing at Bowral Hospital.

Police established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Several lanes of The Hume Highway in both directions were closed for some time while the crash was cleared, however all lanes have now reopened.

Inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
