Police investigating after woman thrown down embankment - Snowy Mountains

Police are appealing for help from the public after a woman was kidnapped and assaulted in the Snowy Mountains yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Tuesday 2 February 2021), police were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway at Talbingo, following reports a woman had been thrown down an embankment.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and performed a vertical rescue with the assistance of the NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Ambulance paramedics.

A 75-year-old woman was retrieved safely. She sustained bruising to her face and deep lacerations to her arms and legs, and was taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital for treatment.

Police have been told the woman was involved in an altercation with a man who was known to her earlier in the day. It's alleged the man dragged the woman to his car, before driving along the Snowy Mountains Highway towards Talbingo mountain and forcing her out of the vehicle and down a four metre embankment.

As inquiries continue, detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man in the area around the time of the incident. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 50s, approximately 175cm tall, of medium build with grey hair and blue eyes. He was barefoot at the time of the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
