The Ethical Standards Command is investigating after two people were shot by police at Mount Sheridan last night, 25 July.
Officers were initially called to Benjamina Street around 5:10pm following reports of an attempted armed robbery, with a man fleeing the area on foot.
Upon arrival, police located a 28-year-old man at the roundabout of Hardy Road, Foster Road and Lizard Street.
Officers attempted to engage with the man, before he was shot on Foster Road.
During the altercation, a civilian woman also sustained a gunshot wound.
Officers immediately provided first aid to both the man and woman, before both were transported to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment.
No police officers were injured during the incident.
A crime scene has been declared, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
