Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in Southport, 25 December.
Emergency services were called to Gold Coast Highway around 3.15pm following reports of multiple power lines and a crane being damaged.
A PSPA was declared around 3.45pm with the exclusion zone encompassing an area from Gold Coast Highway, North Street, Loders Creek and to the Broadwater.
Planning is underway to dismantle the crane; however, strong wind gusts are hindering these efforts.
The PSPA is expected to remain in place until Tuesday, subject to weather conditions.
The exclusion zone includes 36 campsites, affecting 91 people.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and residents within the exclusion zone are to seek assistance from police at the location.
