Police issue warning after man injured in bush in Hawkesbury

Police are appealing for the public to take care and notify others while undertaking activities in rugged terrain after a man was rescued in the Hawkesbury area overnight, NSW Police say.

About 7pm (Wednesday 20 December 2017), police from Hawkesbury Local Area Command responded to reports of an injured man on a rural property at South Maroota.

The 38-year-old man was riding his motorcycle alone in a rugged area on private property when he came off the motorcycle and broke his leg.

A neighbour heard the man’s calls for help and notified authorities, which were only able to access the area in a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Due to the man’s injury, an Air Ambulance helicopter was dispatched to the scene to retrieve the man and flew the man to hospital for treatment.

Hawkesbury Local Area Command Duty Officer, Chief Inspector Garry Sims said if it wasn’t for the neighbour in this instance, the man may have spent the night injured in the elements.

"If you go out to do activities in rugged terrain, please let someone know your plans beforehand so emergency services can respond if something goes wrong.

"You may be in an area without mobile phone coverage, so please take precautions before heading off into the bush" said Chief Inspector Sims.
