Police launch investigation into armed pharmacy robbery and attempted armed bank robbery

Investigations are underway following an attempted bank robbery and the armed robbery at a pharmacy this morning.

About 10.30am (Wednesday 19 August 2020), a man entered a bank on the Old Princes Highway, Sutherland, and threatened staff with a knife, demanding cash and stated he had a gun.

The security screens were activated, and the man fled empty-handed and was last seen driving from the area in a white Holden Cruze.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

About 11.30am, police responded following reports of an armed robbery at a pharmacy on the Hume Highway, Liverpool.

Police were told a man, who was armed with a hammer, entered the store and demanded cash and drugs.

The staff members were able to seek refuge in a storage area and the man ran from the store before driving off in a white Holden Cruze. It is unknown what was stolen at this time.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries, which include liaising with Sutherland Shire police.

A large-scale search is now underway for the man and vehicle – a white Holden Cruze.

The man described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170-175cm tall, solid build, light brown hair. He was wearing a grey long-sleeved hoodie and black track suit pants and had a black baseball cap.

Police are appealing for anyone who might have been in the vicinity of either area this morning, particularly those who may have dash-cam footage, to contact police.

Further, anyone who sees the man or the vehicle, is urged not to approach, instead contact 000 (Triple Zero) immediately.
