An investigation is underway after a body was found following a two-vehicle crash in the state's north this afternoon.
Just after 2.40pm today (Thursday 2 October 2025), emergency services were called to the intersection of Pacific Highway, Wotton Way, Coolongolook, approximately 16km south of Nabiac, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Police District were told a SUV and a sedan have collided before both cars set alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Following inquiries, a body was located inside the sedan.
The body is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of SUV – a woman in her 50s – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
A crime scene has been established and extra resources from Crash Investigation Unit and Police Rescue were called to assist with further inquiries.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and follow the directions of police and traffic control southbound on the M1.
