Police investigating a number of alleged child sexual assault offences in Sydney’s east and at Wentworth Point have laid additional charges against two men, including one who was extradited from Queensland, NSW Police say.
Strike Force Worobil was established by Eastern Suburbs detectives in September 2015 to investigate a number of incidents between 2007 and 2010 in a number of locations.
A 42-year-old Bondi man was arrested in April this year and remains before the court on a number of charges.
Since then, detectives have been investigating the alleged sexual assault of two 14-year-old girls at Wentworth Point on 4 August 2007.
Police were told one of the girls had been contacted online prior to them attending the location and both girls were supplied with alcohol.
As a result of those inquiries, detectives today issued a court attendance notice to the 42-year-old man for the offences of aggravated sexual assault of a child aged 14-16 (x5), sexual assault of a child aged 14-16, and using a carriage service to groom persons under 16.
He remains in custody to appear at Central Local Court on Thursday 1 September 2016.
Detectives also sought an arrest warrant for a 33-year-old man last month. Advice was provided to Queensland Police who arrested the man in Brisbane’s north on Monday 8 August 2016.
The man from Clontarf, Queensland, appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday where detectives from Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command successfully applied for his extradition to Sydney.
He arrived at Sydney Domestic Airport about 11.30am today and was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child aged 14-16 (x2) and incite act of indecency (x4) and using a carriage service to groom persons under 16.
He was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court later today.
Police urge any person who has been the victim of sexual assault to come forward, no matter how long ago the incident occurred. Reports can be made at any police station.
