Police lay armed robbery charges at South Brisbane

A man has been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a supermarket and attempted robberies of a fast food restaurant and pharmacy at Mount Gravatt today.

Around 1pm the 39-year-old walked into a Logan Road business armed with a knife and demanded cash.

The man attempted to open the register without success and is alleged to have smashed it before leaving empty handed.

He then walked into a nearby restaurant and approached an employee, demanding they open the till.

The staff member complied, and the man is alleged to have stolen a sum of money before leaving on foot.

The man then entered a pharmacy nearby and is alleged to have threatened an employed before forcing them to open a cash register.

He stole a sum of money before fleeing on foot towards Rise Street.

A member of the public was able to call Triple Zero (000) and advise officers of the man's location.

He was arrested a short time later without incident.

He has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of wilful damage and one count of attempted armed robbery.

The 39-year-old Dutton Park man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
