Police lay charges after investigation into 2019 deliberately lit bushfire

Police have charged a teenager following investigations into a deliberately lit fire in the state's west.

In October 2019, an out of control bushfire destroyed approximately 533ha of the Nundle State Forest in the Tamworth area.

The fire was reported to police and officers from Oxley Police District commenced an investigation.

Police will allege that, during the investigation officers were alerted to the theft of 200 litres of diesel fuel from a logging excavator in the Nundle State Forest between October 26 and 27, 2019.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 19-year-old man at a home in Bridgman, near Singleton, about 12.45pm today (Tuesday 25 May 2021).

He was taken to Singleton Police Station where he was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread, and larceny.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Tuesday 13 July 2021.
