Police lay charges after pursuit in northern suburbs

Two men have been charged following a pursuit in the northern suburbs overnight.

Police received calls from the public about a Nissan Navara ute with a blown tyre and sparking rim on the Eastern Freeway about 4.10am.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over.

The ute was followed onto the Western Ring Road and it's alleged the driver hit a number of police cars.

Police managed to stop the ute and arrested the male driver and passenger.

A 19-year-old Craigieburn man and a 20-year-old Reservoir man have both been charged with numerous offences including theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving and damaging an emergency vehicle.

Both men have been remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
