Police lay charges after robbery on Footscray bus

A swift police response has led to charges being laid after an alleged robbery on a bus in Footscray last night.

Two 16-year-old girls were travelling on a Sunshine-Footscray bus when they were approached by two females as the bus neared Footscray Train Station about 8.10pm.

The females allegedly threatened the girls and stole their mobile phones before exiting the bus.

The teenagers reported the incident to the bus driver who drove them to a nearby police station.

Based on a description from the girls, Transit police were able to identify persons of interest who were stopped by PSOs at Southern Cross Station shortly after 9pm.

Three females were initially detained with one exonerated at the scene.

An 18-year-old Footscray woman was arrested and subsequently charged with robbery and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

She has been remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

A 16-year-old Deer Park girl was also arrested and subsequently charged with robbery and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

She was remanded to face a children's court at a later date.
