Police lay charges after scooter rider dies - Five Dock

A P-plate driver has been held in custody overnight after being charged over the death of a scooter rider at Five Dock yesterday.

A 41-year-old man was riding a motorised scooter along William Street about 8.45pm (Tuesday 24 September 2019), when he was allegedly struck by a utility near the intersection of Spencer Street.

Bystanders tried to help the rider; however, he died at the scene.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended and arrested the driver of the ute, a 19-year-old man from Kellyville.

He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Burwood Police Station and charged by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit with:

• Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, and

• Negligent driving (occasioning death).

The man has been refused bail overnight to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 25 September 2019).
