Police lay charges over four-vehicle crash - Kurmond

A driver has been charged following a multi-vehicle crash in the Hawkesbury region last month.

About 5.10am on Thursday 15 December 2022, emergency services were called to Bells Line of Road, near Comleroy Road, at Kurmond, following reports of a four-vehicle crash.

On arrival, officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command located four vehicles – a truck, two utility trucks, and a Holden Commodore station wagon – had collided.

The driver of the Holden, a 30-year-old man, and the front passenger, a 33-year-old woman, were taken to Westmead Hospital, both in a stable condition.

Three of the Holden's rear passengers – a three-year-old girl, a six-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl – were taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The drivers of the two utes, a 58-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, and the truck driver, a 46-year-old man, were all treated for minor injuries on the scene.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, a 30-year-old man was arrested at Mt Druitt Railway Station about 8.45am today (Thursday 19 January 2023).

He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with nine offences, including:

  • two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive manner dangerous,
  • negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm),
  • two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle,
  • negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm),
  • drive motor vehicle during disqualification period,
  • not keep left of dividing line, and
  • possess prohibited drug.

The Tregear man was refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court tomorrow (Friday 20 January 2023).
