Police lay charges over Serious Crime Prevention Order breach

A man has been charged as part of ongoing Serious Crime Prevention Order compliance operations across Sydney.

On Wednesday 1 September 2021, the Supreme Court of NSW issued a 43-year-old man with a Serious Crime Prevention Order (SCPO) following an application by the State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad.

Following information received, a 43-year-old man attended Day Street Police Station about 12pm yesterday (24 February 2022).

The man was subsequently charged with three counts of contravene serious crime prevention order and larceny.

Police will allege in court that the man stole items from a storage centre at Ultimo in January this year.

It will be further alleged the man did not provide accurate personal identification information to authorities in contravention of the SCPO.

"The Criminal Groups Squad apply for Serious Crime Prevention Orders very selectively to ensure the best protection of the public," Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor, Criminal Groups Squad Commander says.

"These orders are in place for a reason and anyone who has such an order placed against them can be sure that if they do not take them seriously, they will end up on the wrong side of the prison wall."

The Criminal Groups Squad is currently drafting several Serious Crime Prevention Orders against selected persons, who we believe require such an order to prevent, restrict and disrupt their involvement in serious crime related activities.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 25 February 2022).
