Police lay murder charge at Atherton

A 72-year-old Atherton man has been charged with murder (Domestic Violence offence) following investigations into the suspicious death of a 65-year-old woman in Atherton yesterday morning.

About 8.30am on April 30, emergency services were called to an address on Gordon Street.

Police will allege a woman was located with a wound to her abdomen and was declared deceased at the scene.

A crime scene was declared and detectives continue to work to determine the circumstances leading up to the woman's death.

The man will appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court tomorrow.
