Police make arrest after North Melbourne kidnapping

Armed Crime Squad detectives have arrested a man following an alleged kidnapping in North Melbourne in July.

Police were called following reports a man had been kidnapped and assaulted on Wednesday 14 July.

It will be alleged after the man was kidnapped demands were made for his return.

The 26-year-old North Melbourne man was released later that evening and had sustained minor injuries.

Detectives executed a search warrant at a Werribee address this morning and arrested an 18-year-old Werribee man.

He has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, extortion with threat to inflict serious injury, intentionally cause injury and theft of a motor vehicle.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
