Ararat Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a man on Monday (15 January) as a result of an ongoing investigation into two alleged deliberately lit fires, Victoria Police say.

The fires occurred at two unoccupied houses in Tuson Street in October last year and on 11 January.

Both fires resulted in the two houses having to be demolished.

The 20-year-old Ararat man was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of arson before being remanded in custody.
