Police officer charged in Wollongong

A police officer has been charged with assault following an incident in Wollongong last year, NSW Police say.

About 12.15am on Sunday 18 December 2016, an off-duty police officer was asked to leave a licensed premises on Crown Street.

It is alleged the man became involved in a physical altercation with security personnel and refused to leave.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command were called and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, the 32-year-old man, who is attached to a local area command within the South West Metropolitan Region, was issued a court attendance notice for common assault and remain in vicinity of licensed premises.

He will appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 2 May 2017.
