Police officer charged over assault in Western Region

A police officer has been charged over an alleged on-duty assault and malicious damage in the Central West, NSW Police say.

On Saturday 30 December 2017, the officer was involved in the arrest of 20-year-old woman in the Central West.

It’s alleged during the arrest the woman was assaulted by the officer, resulting in facial injuries.

It is also alleged that during the arrest the officer damaged a piece of jewellery belonging to the woman.

Following an internal investigation, about 3.30pm on Thursday 14 June 2018, the officer, a 33-year-old Senior Constable, now attached to the Northern Region, was served with a Court Attendance Notice for the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and malicious damage.

He is expected to appear before Orange Local Court on Monday 30 July 2018.

The officer’s employment is under review.
