Police officer charged, South Eastern Region

A male sergeant from the South Eastern Police Region has been charged following allegations of excessive force against a man being held in police custody.

Ethical Standard Command launched an investigation into the incident which occurred at the Southport Watchhouse on December 9, 2021.

The officer was suspended from duty and has since been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 30 where he is due to next appear on November 15.
