Police officer injured during brawl, man charged in Bankstown

A man has been charged after a police officer was injured during a brawl in Sydney’s south-west. , NSW Police say>

About 12.35am today, officers attached to Bankstown Traffic & Highway Patrol Command attended Batchelor Avenue, Panania, after reports of a brawl.

Upon arrival, officers observed a group of about 50 people fighting.

Further crews were requested, and officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and were able to disperse the group.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man, during which an officer was allegedly punched.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with resisting police in the execution of duty, assault police x2 and affray.

The police officer received treatment for facial and arm injuries.

The man is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 25 October 2017.

Inquiries are continuing.
