Tasmania Police encourage footy fans to do the right thing this Saturday if they’re planning to have a few drinks while watching the AFL grand final, Tasmania Police say.
Extra police officers will be out and about to tackle drink driving on the roads and antisocial behaviour in CBDs and around bars and pubs.
Acting Inspector Ian Mathewson said:
"We’re expecting it to be a busy day on Saturday.
"We want everyone to have a good time but if that doesn’t mean drink driving and putting others at risk.
"And anyone heading out to the entertainment precincts should be aware that we won’t tolerate antisocial, drunk and unruly behaviour that ruins a good time for everyone else," he said.
Police will also be checking that patrons are aged over 18 in pubs and clubs. Drinking in the street is unlawful.
Mobile police patrols and booze buses will be operating throughout the State area, focusing on drink & drug driving.
Other traffic related enforcement activities will focus on speed detection, inattention, failing to wear seatbelts and using mobile phones whilst driving.
"If you’re hosting a party at home, be responsible and ensure there is plenty of food and non-alcoholic drinks available," Acting Inspector Mathewson said.
"If you are planning on going out drinking please arrange your transport home while you’re still thinking clearly.
"Pre-arrange a designated driver, utilise public transport or organise a taxi.
"Look after your friends and make sure everyone can get home safely," he said.
