Police prepare to farewell Senior Constable Brett Forte

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) will today put the final touches on plans for the funeral of Senior Constable Brett Forte, Queensland Police say.

Senior Constable Forte will be farewelled at a police funeral tomorrow at the Clive Berghofer Recreational Centre at 11am.

Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright said he expected a large crowd made up of Senior Constable Forte’s family, friends and colleagues.

"Since last Monday’s tragic events, we have been inundated with well wishes and messages of support from the community which has been very touching," Assistant Commissioner Wright said.

"Tomorrow is all about honouring Senior Constable Forte’s sacrifice and our officers have been working around the clock to ensure everything is in place to give him the dignified farewell that he deserves.

"We are expecting a large crowd to attend the funeral tomorrow, and we have done extensive planning to ensure that we get everyone in and out safely.

"The venue can seat around 2,000 people and a big screen will be erected out the front with temporary seating available for attendees if the venue becomes full."

Members of the public will be able to watch the funeral live on the Seven, Nine and Ten Networks from 11am. ABC News will also broadcast parts of the service on its news channel.

Senior Constable Forte was killed in the line of duty last Monday and is survived by his wife and three children.
