Police probe after aggravated break and enter in Thirroul

Police have appealed for information from the community after an aggravated break and enter near Wollongong early today, NSW Police say.

Shortly after 5.30am today (Tuesday 9 January 2018), two unknown offenders forced entry to a home on the Princes Highway at Thirroul.

The front door of the premises was forced open and two males believed to have been armed with handguns entered the home.

The men made demands of the residents, a 45-year-old man, 47-year-old woman and 10-year-old male.

As the men ransacked the house, the woman and child escaped through a window to a neighbouring home, whilst the man barricaded himself in a room of the premises.

Both men fled from the premises in a silver coloured sedan. The men have only been described as wearing balaclavas and gloves.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police from Wollongong Local Area Command attended the incident and established a crime scene.

Investigators believe that the incident was targeted and the residents are not assisting police.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers.
