Police probe after enlisted Navy officer assaulted in Glenfield

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault of a Navy officer on a train stopped at Glenfield Railway Station this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 2.45pm today, a 24-year-old enlisted Navy officer was travelling home on a train from the Anzac Day Memorial Service in the city.

While on the train the man noticed a number of men consuming alcohol and harassing the other commuters.

The officer approached the group and asked that they stop drinking and curb their behaviour.

One of the men in the group took offence and punched the officer in the face as he was leaving the train that had stopped at Glenfield Railway Station.

The officer suffered a bloody nose but did not require any treatment.

The incident was reported to police at Macquarie Fields and an investigation is now underway.

The man who police believe may be able to assist with inquiries has been described as Caucasian in appearance, about 160cm tall with a large build and brown thinning hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing green army cargo pants and a long sleeve black jumper.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident, or who have information that could assist the investigation to contact Macquarie Fields Police Station on 9605 0499.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
