Police are appealing for information following an attempted carjacking in the state's south-west last month.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District were called to a service station on the Sturt Highway, Buronga, near Mildura, about 8.20pm on Wednesday 12 August 2026 following reports of an attempted carjacking.
Police arrived and were told a man - aged in his 40s - had been sitting inside a Holden sedan, when three unknown people wielding weapons including a tomahawk, and wearing face coverings and dark clothes, got out of another sedan and began striking the windows of his vehicle.
The man reportedly ran from the vehicle and no injuries were reported.
The group was unable to be located; however, officers seized the Holden sedan and a tomahawk for forensic examination and commenced inquiries into the incident under Strike Force Dynari.
As investigations continue, investigators have released CCTV images of a vehicle they believe may have been involved.
The vehicle is described as a silver Mitsubishi Lancer.
Detectives are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, observed suspicious activity in the area at the time, or have information that relates to contact Broken Hill Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
