Police are appealing for information from the public after two fires were deliberately lit in Sydney's west.
Just after 1.00am on Sunday 27 April 2025, officers from Police Transport Command – Quakers Hill were advised of a fire on a carriage at Doonside railway station.
The fire generated a large amount of smoke which triggered a smoke alarm. There was no damage occasioned to the carriage.
In a second incident, about 6.40pm on Friday 20 June 2025, emergency services were called to a shopping centre at Federal Road, Seven Hills, following reports of a fire.
Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command found that a lounge located outside a barber shop had been set alight, before the smoke activated a fire alarm and a sprinkler system.
Members of the public removed the lounge from the shopping centre into an open carpark to prevent further damage.
Police established crime scenes at both locations and commenced an investigation into the fires, which is believed to have been deliberately lit.
Police believe the two incidents are linked.
As inquiries continue, police have released images of two people who might be able to assist police with inquiries.
The first person is described as male, Caucasian appearance, about 30-35 years old, thin build, fair complexion with a greying beard. He was wearing black pants, a grey long-sleeved jumper and a light coloured baseball-style hat.
The second person is described as female, Caucasian appearance, about 19-20 years old, thin build, fair complexion, with shoulder-length brown hair. She was wearing light blue coloured pants and a short-sleeved grey T-shirt.
