Inquiries continue after a garbage truck crashed into a house in Sydney’s Inner-West yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 5.40pm (Wednesday 2 May 2018), a garbage truck was travelling north on Gladstone Street, Lilyfield, when it stopped south of the intersection with Brennan Street, and the driver got out to assist in emptying bins.
Shortly after stopping, the truck started rolling forwards.
The driver, a 35-year-old man, was able to re-enter the cabin however the truck continued to roll down the street, colliding with a boat, a caravan, and a car on Gladstone Street. Another boat was also damaged when the caravan was pushed into it.
The truck continued until it collided with a house on Brennan Street.
A 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl in the home at the time were both uninjured.
The driver of the truck was also uninjured, but was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
Police from Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.
The truck will be mechanically examined.
