Police probe service station robbery in Guildford

Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a service station in Guildford overnight, NSW Police say.

About 10pm today an employee was working in the storeroom of a service station on Guildford Road when a man entered.

He approached the counter and picked up a packet of chewing gum. He placed the gum on the counter and as the employee processed the transaction and opened the till, the man pulled a large kitchen knife from the pocket of his jumper.

The armed man reached across and tried to steal money from the till but was unable to reach. He threatened the employee with the knife and demanded cash but was unsuccessful.

As the employee hit the duress alarm the armed man stole his mobile phone that was on the counter and ran for the door.

He ran out of the service station and was seen heading west along Guildford Road.

Police from Rosehill attended the scene and commenced an investigation.

The armed man has been described to police as being Middle Eastern/Mediterranean in appearance, about 25-years-old with a medium build and wearing a grey hooded jumper.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
