Police pursuit, man charged in Campbelltown

A man has been charged following a police pursuit yesterday afternoon through western Sydney, NSW Police say.

Police allege, about 6pm Wednesday 4 January 2017, a 20-year-old man attended a car dealership in Glossop Street St Mary’s, where he agreed to take a Hyundai sedan for a test drive.

The car was not returned and the salesman reported the car stolen to police.

About 1.45pm yesterday (16 January 2017), police were patrolling Rusden Rd at Mt Riverview when they noticed a Hyundai with no registration plates. Police attempted to stop the car however it accelerated away and a pursuit commenced.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later. The vehicle was sighted by police several times during the next hour in Emu Plains and Narellan.

About 3.10pm, the stolen Hyundai was driven into Kallicar Road, Campbelltown and the driver left the car. He was eventually arrested by police following a foot pursuit and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

Police have also charged the man with an alleged incident which occurred on Sunday 18 December 2016. Police allege the man entered a house in Picton where he took a set of car keys before stealing a BMW coupe. The car was located the following day in West Street, Croydon.

The man was further charged with several alleged break and enters in Cameron Park, Maryland and Russell Lea in December 2016 and the theft of registration plates in Jamistown and Cameron Park over the past month.

The man has been charged with 13 offences, including two counts of take and drive conveyance, two counts of drive whist disqualifies, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, goods in custody, break, enter and steal matters and breach of bail.

He has been refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on 3 February 2017.
