Police release CCTV images following counterfeit currency fraud in south west Sydney

Police have released CCTV images and are appealing for public assistance following a fraud incident in Sydney’s south west earlier this year, NSW Police say.

Just after 3.15pm on Thursday 2 June 2016, two men entered a store in a shopping centre on Roselands Drive, Roselands, and made a purchase.

It’s alleged the men used counterfeit $50 notes to pay for the items.

A short time later, the men went to another store in a shopping centre on the corner of Stacey Street and North Terrace, Bankstown, and refunded the items.

Officers from Campsie Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV images of two males who may be able to assist them.

The first man is depicted as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, of medium build, with a beard and black short hair. He is seen wearing a black and white camouflage jumper.

The second man is depicted as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, of solid build and hair. He is seen wearing a white t-shirt, black pants, black thongs and a grey and orange hat.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
