SA Police have commended the public for their overall behaviour during the Adelaide Fringe noting that less than a person a day was ordered from the Declared Public Precinct (DPP).
Data released by SAPOL today shows that just 22 people were ordered from the public precinct in the interests of public safety during the 30-day event.
"Overall the public were well behaved and had a good time attending the events in the East End of Adelaide," said Superintendent Craig Wall, the officer in charge of the Eastern District.
"On behalf of the South Australia Police I would like to thank the wider community for this positive outcome and would note that DPPs remain an additional valuable tool for police to assist in keeping the public safe."
This was the second time the area - bounded by Grenfell St, Bartels Rd, Dequetteville Tce, Botanic Rd, Frome Rd and King William Rd - has been proclaimed a Declared Public Precinct, giving SA Police additional powers in the region.
In particular when a DPP is in place police are able to order people – either individually or in a group - to leave the defined area if their behaviour is posing a risk to public order and safety.
Fringe DPP – in place for 12-hours a day (6pm-6am) from 15 February until 6am on Sunday 17 March:
* Number of people ordered from the DPP: 22
* Number of people barred from the DPP: 4
* Number of expiation notices issued for offensive or disorderly conduct in the DPP: 3
* Number of minors removed from the DPP: 17
* Number of arrests relating to breaching DPP: 3
NOTE: The Declared Public Precinct only relates to a specific geographic area, not to venues outside that. The East End DPP did not cover the motorsport event in the parklands.
