A 52-year-old man has died after a three-vehicle traffic crash on the Bruce Highway at Yabulu this morning.

Preliminary inquiries indicate around 9.10am a silver hatchback was travelling north when it drifted onto the incorrect side of the highway.

The hatchback clipped a utility travelling south and then collided with another vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the silver hatchback, a 52-year-old Deeragun man, died at the scene.

A 62-year-old woman and sole occupant of the third vehicle was transported to the Townsville University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 23-year-old man and sole occupant of the utility was uninjured.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling in the area at the time of the crash or has dash cam vision to come forward.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
