Police search for missing angler at Port Kembla

A search will resume tomorrow for a man swept off rocks while fishing at Port Kembla.

Emergency services were called to Hill 60 Headland about 3.45pm (Monday 25 April 2022), after a 19-year-old man fishing from the rocks was hit by a large wave and washed into the sea.

The man's friends, aged 17 and 50, entered the water in an attempt to rescue him and emergency services were alerted.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District initiated a search assisted by Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Area Command, PolAir, Marine Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter.

The two friends were recovered by witnesses and life savers suffering minor injuries.

The search was continued for the third man; however, was suspended shortly before 6pm due to deteriorating conditions and fading light.

The search will resume tomorrow morning (Tuesday 26 April 2022).
