Police searching for wanted man after firearms incident in Wallaroo, SA

Police are currently in Wallaroo searching for a man wanted in connection with a pursuit earlier today, according to SA Police.

Police spotted the man just before 1am today (Monday 16 July) driving a Commodore sedan on the Spencer Highway and tried to pull him over. The driver refused and was last seen on East Terrace before police terminated the pursuit. Police continued to search for the car in the township but were unable to locate it or the driver.

Just after 1pm today, police located the Commodore abandoned near East Terrace and Cornish Terrace. Patrols then spotted the wanted man in Daly Street where he allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at police. An officer fired a shot at the man who then ran off. No police were physically injured.

Police believe the wanted man is now within a location which has been declared a dangerous area. The declared area is bordered by East Terrace, Cornish Terrace, Gouge Street and Ryan Street in Wallaroo. Members of the public are requested to abide by any directions from police and avoid the area if possible.

The wanted man is described as being Caucasian, about 160cm tall, 70kg, medium build with brown eyes and light brown hair. He is wearing black long pants, a black windcheater with a white motif on the front and a black cap.

All residents are advised to secure their properties by ensuring all doors and windows are locked. If anyone sees a man matching his description do not approach him but call police immediately on Triple Zero (000).
