Police seek help to find missing man at Gap at Mount Isa

Police are asking for public assistance to help locate 80-year-old John Thompson (pictured) missing from The Gap, Mount Isa this afternoon.

He's believed to have left a Marian Street dwelling just after 5pm today, Saturday April 23 on foot travelling south on Stanley Street.

Police and family have concerns for his welfare as he has a medical condition which causes disorientation and lack of awareness for his safety, especially around roads. Motorists are urged to drive with caution in and around the area.

John is described as Aboriginal in appearance, 178cm tall with a slim build and a white and grey bushy beard.

He was last seen wearing a green camouflage hoodie with black pants and thongs, carrying a red plastic 'coles' branded shopping bag. He was wearing a black cap.

Residents in Mount Isa are asked to check under their houses, in sheds and carports for signs of John. Police are urging John, or anyone else with information on his whereabouts, to contact them; particularly truck drivers travelling the Barkley Highway who may have seen John or given him a lift.
