Police seek info following bag snatch in Edgeworth

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman and her son were assaulted, before the woman’s bag was snatched in Edgeworth last night, NSW Police say.

About 9.30pm yesterday, a 64-year-old woman was with her 44-year-old son at a tavern on Main Road.

While in the poker machine area, police have been told an unknown man approached the pair and began talking to them before leaving the scene.

Just after midnight today, the pair left the tavern and walked along Minmi Road when an unknown woman approached them and grabbed hold of the woman’s handbag causing the woman to fall to the ground.

The unknown woman ran from the scene taking the woman’s bag, and the injured woman’s son ran after her, when north along the same road, a white 4WD mounted the curb and a person got out of the vehicle, before assaulting the man.

The unknown woman had fled the scene.

The 64-year-old woman was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics; however she did not require further treatment.

Her son did not require treatment.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were called and commenced investigations.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man and a woman who may be able to assist them.

The man is described as being about 30-years-old, 170cm tall, with scabs on his face and black hair. He was seen wearing a dark jumper.

The woman is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, and was seen wearing a black hooded jumper and a black scarf.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
